Do you ever fail?
Every one of us does. The Bible makes it clear that we are going to fail. Romans 3:23 tells us, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God has a perfect standard, and we have all fallen short of that standard.
How does it make you feel to know you are continuously falling short of the standard God has for your life?
Does it ever make you feel hopeless or undeserving of the love of God?
God Knew You Would Fall
The amazing part about God is that He always knew you were going to fall short. God knows everything, even your future. Jeremiah 1:5 tells us that God knew us before we were even born. Galatians 1:15 tells us that God has set us apart and called us by name before we were born.
What this tells us is that God knew long before we were born that we were going to fall short, that we were going to sin. It is for this reason that Jesus came and died on the cross, not just for the sins of the world, but for your sins specifically.
Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus knew that you would be a sinner, yet He came to pay the price for your sins, for your failures.
Do you know that God has wiped away your failures through the death of Jesus on the cross?
If not, are you ready to accept that?
Looking at Jesus in an even more amazing way, consider Romans 5:10: “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”
You are not just a person who was sinning. You were someone who openly defied, even hated God. You wanted nothing to do with the ways of God. Yet, Jesus not only knew this, but died on the cross so that you could be reconciled to Him.
Can you imagine dying for your enemy?
This is what Jesus did for you.
You’ve Fallen and You Can Get Up!
God expected you to fall. He also expected that you would get up and walk in His grace. This is what makes someone successful.
Proverbs 24:16 declares, “For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.”
Your failures are intended to help you to be successful. Can you give an example of when you failed and that actually led you to success?
Your failures also teach you that your perseverance will eventually lead to success. It takes perseverance. It takes persistence. It also takes patience. James 1:2-4 tells us, “2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
When you undergo trials, even failings, and you persist, trusting in God, you will be led toward perfection and completion. It takes patience and trust in God.
Can you believe that God can use your failure to do great things?
This is one of the most important questions to ask yourself. All of us have failed. All of us have sinned. Yet, God can use those failings in a powerful way. This is where your testimony comes into play.
Can you share a portion of your testimony about how God has used a failure in your life to mold and guide you, even lead you to doing something right?
We All Sin!
One of the biggest challenges of overcoming failure is to remove the idea that you are somehow worse than others. We started off by acknowledging that all sin and fall short of God’s standard.
You are no worse than anyone else. In fact, the Apostle Paul makes it clear that he is the worst sinner of all. In 1 Timothy 1:15, he writes, “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.”
Paul declared that he is the worst sinner there has ever been. Yet, God used him in magnificent and powerful ways. He can do that for you as well!
Do you believe that you are a worse sinner than others?
Can God forgive you for the sins you have committed?
Do you know that Jesus died for your sins and that your debt is completely paid?
Can your failures help yourself and others to be more successful?
Your Memory Verse: Romans 5:8 – but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
