Get Baptized!
Be baptized!
This is a command that both Paul and Peter told recent converts to Christianity. There has been much debate as to the overall purpose of baptism, but there is no doubt that Christians should get baptized. It is a public declaration of the work that Jesus has done, giving the believer an opportunity to declare before “the world” that he or she is not turning back, set to always follow Jesus.
Baptism also impacts the Church. This gives fellow believers the opportunity to rally around their brother or sister, lifting and edifying them. They can rally around their brother or sister because they have seen him or her declare that Jesus is the path that has been chosen to follow.
Take Me Down to the River
On May 3, at 4:00 p.m., two of your brothers will make this public declaration. Evan Dearborn and Steve Yarbrough want to declare before the world that they will not turn back. They are going to follow Jesus and want everyone to know it. They will get baptized at Mohawk Park to make this declaration.
What an amazing moment in the lives of our brothers. They will declare before the world that Jesus is Lord over their lives, wanting all to know that they have forsaken all other pathways.
The baptism of these two brothers will make 16 participants and graduates who have been baptized in the last 25 months. We know that all of heaven is rejoicing and that Satan is angry because he clearly has lost again.
We would love you to join us on Sunday, May 3. Please be a part of this momentous occasion for our brothers. Contact Dr. Robert Pannier (Rob.P@HopeCDAcr.org) for details.
Great Are You Lord
It is only fitting that our devotion this past week was “Great Our You Lord,” performed by All Sons & Daughters. Sing along as we praise God for these men’s choice to declare Jesus boldly before men and women.
Volunteer Opportunities
On Tuesday, April 28, at 8:00 a.m. at the Hope Center, there will be a meeting for all those wanting to help our men on their journey to find employment. We want our men to have the best possible chance for success, and we need amazing men and women to help our men with the process of finding a great job.
To give you a little background, participants are allowed to get a job after completing their tenth month in the program. By allowing them to have a job prior to graduation, the goal was to give each participant another small step in the graduation process. We do not want them to become overwhelmed by having to find a place to live and a job at the same time.
The problem has been that many men have struggled to find employment. They become discouraged, disengaged, and sometimes limp to the graduation finish line. To help eliminate this issue, we are looking to find a great group of men and women who will teach, advise, and prepare our men to find a job, starting after month six in the program. This group will teach them how to create a resume, interview for jobs, and find employment in areas where they have interest. Each month will bring a new set of skills that will be taught and developed, culminating in the men spending their tenth month in the program looking for a job.
If you would like to be a part of helping, please join us at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28. If you are unable to attend, but would like to help, please contact Tahsha Jones (Tahsha.J@HopeCDAcr.org).
Prayers for the Week
We ask you to join in prayer for these things:
- For Ben Heath we ask for prayers to assist him in finding full-time employment. Ben has been looking but has not been successful and is getting discouraged. May God find him a great job where he can glorify Jesus.
- For Jason Nichols, who is also looking for a job. May he find something that will help him to not only continue on his journey but help to provide for his family.
- For our new employment program. May this help our men to be successful in finding jobs that will help them to continue on this journey while serving Jesus.
- For Lavonne Johnson. May the doctors find ways to help improve her health and remove her pain.
Tuesday Night of Encouragement
On Tuesday, Pastor Mike Jones from Good News Baptist Church returns to deliver a great message of encouragement. Mike always has positive things to teach, so please join us at 5:30 for dinner and 6:00 p.m. for Mike’s message.
On Tuesday, May 5, we have a special treat for you. Josh Brafford and Jason Nichols will share their testimonies. Both have amazing journeys to Jesus, and we know that you will be blessed to hear these two men.
