In Jesus Name

This past week, our devotion began with the Katy Nichole song, “In Jesus’ Name.” You can listen to it and follow the words by clicking the link below:

This is a beautiful song where Katy sings the prayers that she has for her listeners. In the chorus, she sings:

“I pray for your healing, that circumstances would change
I pray that the fear inside would flee in Jesus’ name
I pray that a breakthrough would happen today
I pray miracles over your life in Jesus’ name
In Jesus’ name.”

What a beautiful prayer that summarizes what all of us should be praying for those around us every day.

The Name Above All Other Names

There is no doubt that millions of people are listening to and singing this song every day. They are singing prayers of healing, breakthrough, and freedom over friends, family, and neighbors. They are singing all of this “in Jesus’ Name.”

The name of Jesus. What an amazing name it is. Philippians 2:9 tells us: “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name.”

Jesus’ Name is above every other name. There is no name greater than His. This truth all Christians should agree upon, but what do we expect that Name to do?

That is a good question to ask. In Acts 4:29-30, the disciples called upon Jesus to help them to perform signs and wonders “in His Name.” In Acts 4:12, the disciples declared that salvation is found in no other name but His. Paul wrote in Romans 10:13 that if one calls on the Name of Jesus that he or she will be saved.

Salvation clearly rests in the Name of Jesus. That Name is so powerful that one who believes in His Name will be saved.

The Power of the Name

The power of salvation resides in the Name of Jesus. However, Katy Nichole boldly proclaims  that the Name of Jesus does much more than bring about salvation. That Name brings healing, change, breakthrough, and miracles.

In Acts 19:11-20 we are told the story of a Jewish exorcist and his seven sons. It tells us that the exorcist was trying to cast out evil spirits by calling on “Jesus whom Paul proclaims.” This man knew the power of the name of Jesus, but he did not embrace that name for himself. He claimed that there was great power in the Name of Jesus, but proclaimed that power by using what Paul knew about the Lord.

Clearly, that is not where the power of the Name rests. It does not reside in what others say about Jesus. This power rests in the individual who has accepted and recognizes Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9-10). This is the power that each of us carries because we can boldly proclaim the Name of Jesus. We can pray healing, change, breakthroughs, and miracles in Jesus’ Name and see miracles occur because the Name of Jesus and everything that He stands for resides in us.

Choosing the Name

This has been the truth for Kaleb Duerre. Kaleb had a very troubled youth that included living in several foster homes before finally being adopted by an amazing couple. He often rebelled and found himself in trouble due to drugs and bad choices.

That all changed when Kaleb came to Hope CDA and called on the Name of Jesus.

He has embraced the power of the Name, finding healing for his sorrows and suffering, change from the way that he thought, freedom from the fears he faced, and miracles that have led him to over a year of sobriety. Kaleb has become a member of Veritas Church and is currently involved in the Gospel Pathways program, looking to further grow in his faith and commitment to Jesus.

Kaleb has done so well in is so committed to his faith that he has already been hired as the second Program Navigator at Hope CDA, joining Joe Mason.

There is no denying that many spoke the Name of Jesus over Kaleb and miracles have happened. We would love for you to come and celebrate those miracles at Kaleb’s graduation on April 20 at Mission of Hope. Please join us at 6:00 p.m.
