The Race to Better Health Is Underway
The Hope Herald
We are excited to announce that Hope CDA began their quest to help our men to become healthier through a better diet. Last Friday, Gina Snyder came and taught a class on the importance of nutrition. This included instruction on processed foods and health risks, the new “food plate,” and the importance of finding healthier snacks.
For many of us who are a bit older, we have been taught about the “food pyramid” as the means to a healthy diet. However, Gina pointed out that this dietary plan that was taught to so many of us is actually a hindrance to good nutrition. The “food plate” is the new way that people should be following.
As part of the class, Gina had the men work in pairs to complete a puzzle providing good ideas for better nutrition. She also encouraged the men to take a quiz to help them evaluate their overall nutrition and health.
If you are interested in learning your score, you can take the quiz at https://www.myplate.gov/.
Our participants will have classes every other Friday for the next few months and then will work with volunteers on shopping for healthier, budget friendly foods. They will learn to make great meals, and we will even have competitions between the houses. It should be both beneficial and fun! Contact Dr. Robert Pannier (952-905-1930) if you would like to get involved.
Hope Good News
Troy Lloyd graduates from the Hope CDA program on May 23. Graduations have normally been on held on Mondays, but Troy’s will occur on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Mission of Hope. This is to accommodate a conflict with Troy’s coach. Please come and join us as we celebrate a milestone for our brother. Troy’s graduation will be the fourth of the year. Josh Hansen, Cody Eickhoff, and Eric Wilson also graduated this year… Kaleb Duerre made the ultimate choice last Friday, when he accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. We thank Good News Baptist Church Pastor Mike Jones for helping Kaleb to make this life altering choice.
Buy a Board
Hope CDA is working on the remodeling of 1700 4th Street where the new stability house will be located. We have a group of volunteers who have nearly completed the demolition of the building, and now we are preparing for the framing. If you are interested, we are looking for people who would be willing to donate 2” x 4” x 10’ boards to the project. This includes both treated and untreated boards.
With tax, these boards cost about $7 per board. If interested, you can either donate to the Hope CDA Board Fund or you can bring boards on your own. As a special bonus, we would love to take your picture with the lumber you have purchased. This will be posted on the website, and you will be recognized for your part in helping to complete this project.
Volunteer Opportunity
Do you know how to write grants? If you have expertise in this area, please reach out to Dr. Pannier (952-905-1930). We are looking for a group to help us find grant opportunities and write the grants to receive funding.
Prayers for the Week
We ask you to join in prayer for these things:
- We pray for Luke Cloudman and Rob as they are out interviewing new participants for the program. May God lead them to the right choices.
- We pray for Logan Klein. He is at European Motors working on improving his detailing skills as Hope CDA prepares to open our Car Detailing business. More about this will be coming soon.
- We pray for Jason Young and Lavonne Johnson is their battles against cancer. May God sustain and strengthen them.
Tuesday Night Encouragement at Hope CDA
This Tuesday, FaithLife Church Pastor Paul Henning returns to Hope CDA to deliver the message of encouragement. Paul always has great messages, and we know that this one will be of great encouragement to all those who hear. Please join us at 6:00 p.m. for Paul’s message.
We should note that the participants and coaches defeated Dr. Robert Pannier and Ron Ziegler in Bible trivia last week. It was a close contest, but the group earned a narrow one-point victory. A special thanks to Gary Thompson for hosting the event.
