The Proof of God’s Goodness
Lamentations 3:22-23 tell us: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
One of the biggest challenges for the men at Hope CDA is letting go of the past. Seeing that God’s mercies never end, no matter how many mistakes they have made. God is faithful to forgive and restore every day.
Reaching the Milestones
This is true for all of us. Sometimes we lose sight of that truth, but there is a way to always keep the mercies of God in your thoughts – remembering the milestones.
God has done so many good things for each of us. Many of those good things are life altering. They may be moments when you honestly thought your life was over or where a dramatic event happened that changed your life forever. The truth is that you may have many of them.
These moments are important for us to recognize and we often share them in our testimonies. We need to remember the many moments where God performed miracles in our lives – the milestones. They remind us to keep going when we face challenges because we have overcome them before. They are also moments for your friends and family to relish and for them to praise God for how He has worked in our lives.
The Great Milestones
We have had a number of great milestones over the past weeks that are amazing moments in the lives of our men. They are also moments where we all get to celebrate and praise God for His mercies and faithfulness.
Evan Dearborn reached one-year of sobriety on April 20. Nearly half of his life had been spent using drugs and alcohol, but now he is striving forward with an incredible milestone increasing in number each and every day. It is truly remarkable how God is working. Evan had another great milestone last Sunday when he got baptized. Can we all say, “Hallelujah!”
Three other men got baptized last Sunday. Braedon Bonnell got baptized at FaithLife Church. He is already a member there and continues to grow in his faith. Steve Yarbrough and Quinton Edwards joined Evan in getting baptized. Heaven is rejoicing and so is the earth.
Tyler Carpenter reached six-months sobriety this past Wednesday. That is the longest time Tyler has been sober since he was a teen (he is 39 now). This has helped him to begin the restoration process with his wife.
Jason Hunkins joined the Hope CDA program on Monday, starting a new pathway. The challenges for Jason have been many, but he set a milestone for freedom from addiction, and we know that our brother is going to continue to thrive. “Praise God!”
This last Tuesday, we got to hear the amazing milestones in the lives of Josh Brafford and Jason Nichols, as they shared their testimonies during Tuesday Night of Encouragement. Both men have seen God move in miraculous ways and a record 58 people were present to hear about their milestones.
Enjoy some of the pictures from these events below, starting with the baptism.

The Greatest Milestone of All
This past week, the devotion started with “Thank You Jesus for the Blood” by Charity Gayle. It is amazing to hear our men sing along as they praise God for the greatest milestone in the history of mankind – the day that Jesus defeated sin and death. You can follow along with the song below.
Hope Good News
Jason Hunkins began the Hope CDA program on Monday. We pray for God to do amazing things in his life during this year long journey… Diane Pansegrau, RN, joined the guys and instructors Paula Hamer and Gina Snyder during Friday’s Nutrition class to talk about protein pastas. They then gathered to make an amazing dish at the Good News Baptist Church kitchen.
See some of our photos from the class.

Volunteer Opportunities
We are still looking for more “Friends” to help our men through their journey at Hope CDA. We are looking for women who would like to be a friend and mentor to a participant. This is an amazing opportunity to assist our men on their pathway to sobriety, and we would love for you to be a part of this journey. If you are interested, please contact Tahsha Jones (Tahsha.J@HopeCDAcr.org).
We are also looking for people who have some time to make phone calls for us. We are building a list of all of the churches in the area and need to update contact information emails. If you would like to be a part of helping to advance the connections in the community at Hope CDA, please contact Tahsha.
Prayers for the Week
We ask you to join in prayer for these things:
- For Ben Heath as he has moved on from Hope CDA, returning to his home area. May God continue to bless him and put good people around him.
- For Jason as he begins this journey. May God shine His light onto Jason and keep him moving toward a life free from drugs and alcohol.
- For Divine Shine. May it become a powerful enterprise to help support Hope CDA.
- For us to all recognize the milestones in our lives. Let us see how God is already working in wondrous ways in each of our lives.
Tuesday Night of Encouragement
On Tuesday, Steve Jenkins returns to provide his theatrical representation of the story of the Philippian jailer. Steve intended to give this performance two months ago but was unable to do so. Come and join us as he returns. Dinner begins at 5:30 with Steve’s presentation starting at about 6:00.
On Tuesday, May 19, graduate and current foreman Eric Mullinex with deliver the message. This will be a first for Eric and we know he will bring a powerful message of hope and encouragement.
