Are you led by God?
Most of us would like to believe that we are, but we know that there are areas where we are falling short. The truth is that we might not understand how to walk and live by the direction of the Holy Spirit.
Are you confused as to how the Holy Spirit can guide you?
Living a Spirit-Filled Life
What do you think it means to live a “spirit-filled” life?
This is the ultimate goal of a Christian, to live according to the ways of God. The challenge is that many of us are not exactly sure what that looks like.
Romans 8:14 tells us, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” If we are led by the Holy Spirit, then we are sons of God.
To do so, we must begin with two verses that we have frequently discussed in these lessons, Galatians 5:22-23. These two verses provide the fruit of the Spirit. Describe that fruit.
How are you demonstrating the fruit of the spirit?
Being Transformed in Your Thinking
Another verse that we have frequently discussed is Romans 12:2: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Before coming to God, what was your thinking like?
How does a person who is led by the spirit think?
Think about what it means to be transformed. Explain that term.
How do you transform your mind to be in alignment with God?
To be honest, the way you think will be the primary way that you either grow in your faith or remain trapped. Most of your sinful thinking will be focused on negative attitudes about yourself.
How do you think negative attitudes about yourself effect how you walk in the Spirit?
When you think negatively about yourself, it is difficult to believe that God sees you as special. It is also difficult to believe that God can use you in amazing ways. Is this type of thinking affecting your ability to live for God?
Using Your Gifts
In living for God, we should use our gifts to glorify Him and benefit the church. What were your spiritual gifts?
How could you use those gifts to live out a Spirit filled life?
As mentioned before, the negative thinking about yourself will stand in the way of you serving God. Are you doubting that God has given you gifts that can be used by the church?
Are you doubting that you have any value to the church at all?
Free from Condemnation
We have focused a great deal on Galatians 5:19-23. Verse 18 tells us that if you are led by the Spirit, that you are not under the law. Said another way, Romans 8:1 tells us, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
What do these verses tell us about what it means for Jesus to have paid the debt for our sins and for us to be spirit filled?
Do you know that the Law has no longer condemned you or hold judgment against you?
Do you know that you are no longer condemned?
If you are unsure about these facts, pray in your group that you would accept the sacrifice that Jesus made for you on the cross.
A Spirit filled life is one where we are sure of our place with God. That we recognize that the Holy Spirit is dwelling inside each one of us and that He is guiding, comforting, teaching, and protecting us.
What things are standing in the way of your spirit filled life?
How can you remove those things?
What do you think God is saying about you right now?
Your Memory Verse: Romans 8:1 – 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
