Hope CDA began its mission by buying deteriorated and “challenged” homes, teaching our men the skills on how to rebuild and renovate these homes, and then selling them to low- to -moderate-income families to help them reach their goal of owning their own home. This has become the brand of Hope CDA and we are proud of the fact that we have remodeled nearly 30 homes in the last 15 years, helping families to live out a dream while also helping to rebuild the neighborhoods. All of this, while giving our men the perfect metaphor for rebuilding their own lives.
This job training program has given our men a new hope and a new set of skills. These skills have helped our graduates to find employment in areas where their developed talents help them to overcome the challenges of finding a job following incarceration and/or substance abuse.
The skills the men learn are exceptional. As you can see in the images below, they learn to turn a “mess” into a beautiful structure that someone is now calling their home.
Many of the houses we restore have been abandoned for some time or suffered considerable damage due to fires, weather, or other factors. This leads to:
*Cracked ceilings, walls, and floors
* Damaged windows
* Water damage
* Foundation damage
* Leaky roofs
* Paint deterioration.
Just as examples.
You can see in the pictures to the left that a house that has this kind of damage looks beyond repair, but that is not the case. Our foremen have taught the skills that are necessary to turn a blight in the neighborhood into a dream home. Our participants learn how to demolish broken and damaged parts of the home, and then replace and restore so that the home is a true gem. They learn how to paint, install drywall, mud, install flooring, sand, install trim and cabinets, fix tile and other flooring, replace siding, and much more.
The transformation of the houses is truly remarkable. However, the transformation of the lives of the men in the Hope CDA program is the real headline. It is truly remarkable to see this occur, and you may want to be a part of this.
